DriverStudio SoftIce Problem with USB Mouse

As a matter of fact, I did all the search work before posting except on
woodmann. Compuserve's database does not help, nor does the general
web or USENET. Many pages talk about previous versions or different
mouse types. There is a similar post on this board

but it has only the problem, not the solution. Don't tell me switching to
PS/2 mouse is the solution.

Anyway, looking on woodmann now and try to find something. Every option
change of SoftICE requires rebooting, which is very time consuming. Hope
it may work out but really not optimistic.

I have similar problems, it seems later versions of softice do not work with usb mouse, even if you checked usb mouse etc in troubleshooting configurations etc.

I eventually spent 10 bucks to buy a ps/2 mouse because any solution to a problem is a solution even though it's not ideal.

In my case, I can give some more information, softice seems to load ok, but ctl+d cannot bring out the softice console. And after softice is loaded, mouse no longer works. I tried to replace the defalt mouse driver etc, but none of the solutions worked. A ps/2 mouse solved all these problems instantly.

I can imagine a way to debug this problem is to use livekd+kd to figure out why the mouse ptr is lost and why ctl+d doesn't bring out the sice console.

While switching from usb mouse to ps/2 mouse, i had some
trouble with the registry, somehow the logictech mouse driver on the cd corrupted the registry relating to the mouse driver. I had to go to logitech website to download their latest utilities, fortunately it fixed the problem.

I agree that PS/2 mouse can solve the problem, but that's not the one I
want. I'm happy with the Logitech cordless keyboard/mouse, it works great.
I have a limited desktop space and need to move keyboard/mouse around
to make room for the writing. The cords are such a hassle to me, in fact
that's the reason why I switch to bluetooth.

Don't know how to do that (no experience using kd with two computers).
Anyway in my case the only glitch is that I must not move the mouse during
the SoftICE session when the window is present - keyboard works fine. So
now even though DriverStudio is installed, I just never start the SoftICE.

Since you mentioned logitech wireless, have you noticed that there is a usb->ps/2 converter with the package, because one of my box uses logitech wireless setup with the usb->ps/2 converter, softice works fine.

livekd+kd will allow you debug any process on one computer, you don't have to set up remote debugging computer etc. livekd can be downloaded from sysinternals.com (the same place you get filemon and regmon)

Anyway I imagine it's not a terribly difficult problem to debug if I had more free time, I'd have tried.
