Ok, to follow up.
It seems that if I install the latest Compuware Driver Studio (Compuware_DriverStudio_v3.2_Incl_KeyGen_iNTERNAL-PARADOX from the FTP) and then use the latest osinfo.dat from the Compuware web site, SoftIce will start without locking the system.
Whether all functions of it work or not, I know not.
